Merland G. Helf, 92, Birnamwood, died on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Cloverleaf Terrace, Birnamwood, under the care of LeRoyer Hospice.
He was born on December 7, 1924 in the town of Ringle, Marathon County, the son of the late Leo and Eva (Clark) Helf.
Merland farmed in the town of Ringle until 1973. He then worked for an asphalt company and also drove milk truck.
Merland enjoyed being in the outdoors and making firewood. He also liked watching old westerns and taking pictures.
Survivors include a sister, Shirley Humblet, Birnamwood; nieces and nephews, Jon Humblet, Birnamwood, Faith (Patrick) Hunt, Birnamwood, David (Marta) Humblet, Ringle and Sheila Humblet, Birnamwood and great-nieces and great-nephews, Amanda (Robert) Koss, Jeremy (Amy) Hunt and Gabriella and Marina Humblet.
Merland was preceded in death by his parents; a sister. Wilma Helf and a brother-in-law, Edmund Humblet.
The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood. Fr. Anthony Ibekwe will officiate. Interment will be in St. Philomena Catholic Cemetery, town of Norrie. Visitation will be on Monday from 9AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
