Janice W. Schroeder, 98

Janice W. Schroeder, of Antigo, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Homme Home in Wittenberg under the care of Aspirus Hospice. She was 98 years old. She was born on July 22, 1918 in Antigo, a daughter of the late Henry and Mina (Kupper) Hoffschmidt. She married George F. Schroeder on May 25, 1943 in Phoenix, Ariz. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1995.

She was a 1937 graduate of Glidden High School.

Janice taught three years at Strassburg grade school. She was the director of food service for the Antigo Unified School District for 17 years and assisted with setting up the nutrition centers in the area. After retirement she pursued her interest in art, being recognized for her watercolor and acrylic works.

For 35 years she was a 4-H leader. She also served on the Antigo School Board and was on the building committee for Pleasant View School.

Janice volunteered for the Red Cross and at the hospital for 20 years. She taught Senior Citizens Art Classes in Antigo and tutored at the Antigo Middle School.

Survivors include three daughters, Lynne (Norman) Seljan of Antigo, Sharon Fry of Houston, Texas and Kristy (Jeffery) Glass of Schaumburg, Ill.; a son, Dennis (Susan) Schroeder of Middleton; five grandsons, Christopher and Michael Seljan, Todd and Chad Fry, Christopher Schroeder; seven great grandchildren, Zach Thomas, Bryce and Melissa Seljan, George and Sarah Fry, Demian and Natasha Fry.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ada McAloon, Anita Smout, and Adella Matzke; and two brothers, Denby and George Hoffschmidt.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18 at 11 a.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home with Janice Jones officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. all at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Antigo Cemetery.
