Antigo Boys Varsity Bowling Team bowled great last weekend, taking 3rd place at the Wisconsin High School Bowling State Championships at Weston Lanes. They competed against the top 25 Division II teams in the State.
After the qualifying round, they were seeded in 2nd place, averaging 188.7 for 15 baker games. They finished very strong their last set, with 4 out of 5 games over 200 (246 high game). On Sunday in the finals, they bowled a 2-game match against Peshtigo, losing 345 to 392, giving them their 3rd place finish. Peshtigo then lost to top-seeded Amherst.
Coach Trevor McCarthy’s commented, “I couldn’t be more proud of the kids when we were down, we never gave up. That shows what kind of character we have on the team. The team led by seniors Mike Zabrowski, Chris Arrowood, Nick Marshall, and Luke Hitz, also under classmen Jared McFarlane, Will Kubeny, and Kyle Schedlbauer fell a bit short on Sunday against Peshtigo. It has been a pleasure to coach these young men for all of these years. For the seniors, I wish you all the best, and for our returning bowlers, continued success.”
Kyle Schedlbauer also competed in the Singles Event bowling a 571 series, placing 31st out of 94 boys and missed the semi-finals cut by 18 pins.
For the AHS Girls team, senior Molly Fermanich competed in the Singles Event. Molly bowled a 539 series, placing 17th out of 54. Coach Bill McFarlane’s commened, “Molly was extremely consistent and mentally tough all season. She demonstrated that ability on the lanes this weekend by battling through some very tough conditions, finishing with a 203 and only missing the cut by 4 pins. She led all girls in District 9 by throwing strikes on over 47% of her shots in conference play. She also would have been 6th highest in the boys division with her strike percentage. She will be missed next year, not only for her abilities, but also her leadership skills. I have been blessed to have her on my team for the last four years.”
