Antigo Boys Tennis shows improvement on the courts
For the Antigo Times
The Red Robins showed significant improvement on the hard courts of Lakeland. Playing their best tennis of the season, the Antigo tennis players won two flights against the Lumberjacks and challenged them in a couple others.
The number-two doubles team of Jared McFarlane and Zach Reineke chalked up their first victory of the season. “These two have come a long way. They both work hard and have a lot of fun on the court,” said Coach David Zalewski.
Freshman Jerome Jones played his first varsity match. It turned out to be a marathon that was completed under the lights. The third set went to a tie breaker that Jones eked out to get the victory. “Jerome is a welcome addition to the team and adds some much needed depth.”
Every player made a good effort. Simon McPhail took his opponent to a tie break. Brody Bunnell and Joe Bartletti challenged a very strong and more experienced number-one doubles team, and came close to walking away with a win. At three doubles, Tyler Hickman and Anthony Lenzner won more games than in any of their previous matches.
Ben Morris played two opponents and beat both by the scores 8-4 and 8-2.
Antigo plays Pacelli at home on Tuesday.
