Betty J. O’Neil, 91
Betty J. O’Neil, of White Lake, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Mission Creek Senior Community in Waukesha, under the care of family and hospice. She was 91 years old. She was born on November 8, 1926, in White Lake, a daughter of the late Leonard and Bernice (Larzelere) Place.
Following graduation from White Lake High School, she moved to Chicago where she worked for the Civil Service office as a secretary assisting in troop movement. After World War II she moved to Milwaukee where she was employed at Harley Davidson and Roth Appliance. While living in Milwaukee she met James G. O’Neil and on May 24th, 1947 they were married at Reformation Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Following their marriage, the couple moved to White Lake for three years before returning to Milwaukee. She raised her family in Muskego and returned to White Lake in 1985.
Betty was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in White Lake, where she also belonged to the Friendship Club. She was a member of the Anderson-Sather American Legion Auxiliary Unit 524, White Lake.
For many years she spent weekends with her family in White Lake where she enjoyed snowmobiling and visiting with family and friends. After retirement, she enjoyed trips to California, Florida, and her favorite, Hawaii. Many winters were spent in Texas.
Betty enjoyed crocheting, painting, reading and the companionship of her dogs.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Mary Beth) O’Neil of Genesee Depot; a daughter, Michele (Mark) Fish of Janesville; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on November 7, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Byron Place.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, White Lake with Rev. Kelly Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Langlade Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
