Mavis Kakes, of Bryant, died Thursday October 4, 2018 at The Bay at Eastview at the age of 88.

She was born June 16, 1930 in Antigo, daughter of the late Otto and Edith (Ecker) Buboltz. She married Donald Kakes on June 7, 1952 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook. Donald preceded her in death on May 12, 2012.

Mrs. Kakes was a 1947 graduate of Antigo High School. She was a homemaker, worked at Margaret studios in Antigo, and produced maple syrup.

She was active in 4-H and was leader of the Neff-Switch Acorns for over 25 years. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts, time at the cottage, picking berries, gardening, and antique cars.

A longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, she served on the church council as treasurer, and was a member of Ladies Aid.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Penny (Bruce) McLeod of Green Bay, and Karen (Wayne) Acker of New London; 5 grandchildren, Michaela McLeod, Amber (Joe) Mrnak, Ashley Acker, Alison Acker, and Abbey Acker; 3 sisters-in-law, Bea Devore, Audrey Heinzen, and Helen Kakes of Antigo; and a cousin, Kathie (Don) Scheuerle of St. Simons Island, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook, with Rev. Jerome Hahn officiating. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church.

Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
