Antigo Chess Club

The Antigo Chess Club is proud to share the results of its players who competed at the Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation State Chess Tournament held on April 11, 2026 at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells.

Representing the club were Sophie Schwebler, Sullivan Schwebler, Tate Gabriel, and Jacob McCorkle. The Antigo K12 Division team from Antigo High School earned an impressive third place finish with a total score of 6.50 points. Individual contributions included 3.5 points from Tate Gabriel, 1.5 points from Sullivan Schwebler, and 1.5 points from Jacob McCorkle. Tate Gabriel also earned a fifth place in the K12 Division. In the K7 Division, Sophie Schwebler 15th place with a score of 2.0 points.

Tate Gabriel also received top honors for his performance in the Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation Virtual Chess Tournament for the 2025-2026 season. Awards for the season-long virtual competition were presented at the state tournament, where Tate earned a first place finish with a total of 72 points. Following behind him were Ayyan Chaudry with 60.5 points and Paxton Mueller with 56.5 points, further highlighting Tate’s dedication and consistent success throughout the year.

Danna Gabriel, 4H leader for Antigo Chess Club, shared her pride in the team’s accomplishment, saying, "I am incredibly proud of our players’ performance at the State Chess Tournament at the Kalahari. It was such a joy to see our K12 team earn third place. Their hard work is truly paying off, and we are excited to celebrate that achievement with a team trophy."
