Rose Racine, 94
Rose Racine, of Antigo, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Care Partners under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 94 years old. She was born on August 31, 1923, in Mattoon, a daughter of Joseph and Clara (Steuber) Duffek.
She was a graduate of Mattoon High School.
After high school she worked in the shipyards in Sturgeon Bay before serving with the Navy Wave’s during WWII. In 2015 she had the honor of going to Washington D.C. on an Angel Honor Flight to visit the WWII memorials.
She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, playing bingo and slots. Rose will be remembered as an excellent cook especially her sauerkraut and bread dumplings.
Rose, along with her sister Rita adventured on many road trips exploring roads and destinations unknown.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy (Ron Heinlein) Racine of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Kathy Racine of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Jan Racine of Prescott Valley, Arizona;
four sons, John (Julie) Racine of Mattoon, William (Cheryl) Racine of Antigo, Joe (Cheryl) Racine of South Milwaukee, Andy (Pam) Racine of Green Bay;
18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Rita Palmer of Antigo; brother, Paul (Eunice) Duffek of Antigo.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Fischer, Mary Buslaff; three brothers, Joseph, John, and Anton “Satch” Duffek; and her former husband Paul Racine.
A family gathering will be held around her birthday.
The family thanks Dr. Snider and the caring staff at Care Partners and LeRoyer Hospice for their wonderful care of Rose.
